We have this little grey mouse in the garage that has been there all day. It's right outside the door from our house into the garage. My husband and I have both stepped over it numerous times, we've taken the car in and out of the garage and drive up right to it......but it won't move!!! It's definitely alive b/c it wiggled it's little head and tail a bit, but I don't know why it won't go away from that spot. I can't see if it's hurt. I was thinking maybe it has a broken leg or arm or something and that's why it can't move, but I'm a little nervous to get that close to it. What can we do?? I can't have this little mouse sitting outside my door forever. It's cute and all, but I don't want mice!!

Get a pair of gloves and CAREFULLY pick the litte baby up. If it appears okay, you can put it into a shoe box with filler (shredded paper or whatever) and a little water and maybe some dry kitty food for the night. Put holes in the top of the lid for air and that way he can rest up for tomorrow.
Then in the morning, put the box outside of the garage, take the top off and he should scurry off when he feels better. However, since he's in the garage and doesn't want to go away, he may be a mama or papa and there are little babies that he's not wanting to leave until they're ready. As long as they're in the garage, don't worry. You can scoop them up with gloves or a kitchen mitt and put them outside (we used to do it all the time - and sometimes from inside the house when the kitter would bring friends inside to "play")!
Good luck! Let us know what happens!

My guess, from so far away, is the the poor little thing is probably colder than a well washers weenie.. you may have a warm draft coming from under your door that he finds to be like a Roman Sauna.
I used to raise mice and their metabolism does not fall within the circumstances that you have described. It could be an old critter or been injured by an amused feline. At any rate it seems to be on its last leg in this life. I am sorry but that's what it sounds like. Mice are foragers for food and love bird seed, sunflower seeds are a favorite. I kept my buddies in a 10 gallon aquarium with a white pine shred floor. A plastic jar cap can be filled with water and changed every other day or so.
Field mice don't usually carry any diseases since they are very natural in their habits and interact very little if ever with other creatures, unlike rats.
Let us know what you decide to do and what you observe as to any injuries. :)

I decided that I had no choice as the mouse was infringing on my property that I had to protect my family and had every right to run it over with my car and dry it out for mouse jerky.
j/k :chub: its still in the garage somewhere.

Ok seriously, the mouse died, we just checked. The mouse must have been injured to begin with because last night it didn't scurry when I pulled the car into the garage, and it barely moved when I stepped over it.
Hope things are better where you are now little buddy.

Poor little mousey poo! Okay - I have to share this with you C and Jester, and everyone else... TRY not to giggle! My big macho hubby has a pet mouse in his 56 X 56 garage! It's detached from the house and dug into the hill, faced with rock and cleaner than my house actually becuase my hub is just a little anal (which isn't necessarily a bad thing.) Anyway, he was working out there on his "stuff" and he saw the little guy - CALLED me in the house from his cell phone to bring him some dry kitty food out to the garage for the new "pet". He named him "Mr. Jingles" from The Green Mile! :)
Anyway, all was well, and the little critter would actually come and watch Hubby as he worked out there. Well, then one day I didn't know he had the garage door open and I let the kitty out to play. Next thing I know, my hub is coming in the house cursing up a blue streak at the cat and yelling at me! (I'm in the shower mind you!) I stick my head out and here my big macho bear is with a little baby mouse on a work glove in his hand and the poor little baby has a tooth hole in him, i.e. met the cat. I swear I though my husband was going to shoot our kitty.
Anyway, I had to get out of the shower, get the cat back inside, and help make the baby mouse comfortable. He did unfortunately pass away and hubby made me bury him appropriately in the flower bed. Then (to make up for it all) I made a mouse house for the remaining babies to hide in. Thank goodness he has seen one of the little ones since then. Otherwise I think the cat and I would both have to move out until he did! He's such a softie!!! when it comes to little helpless things!!!

Finding Puss and Boots.
Posting a sentry at the food bowl, I slowly open a can of Tuna, afterall what is a good caserole without a can of tuna? As the wait ensues the stone is drawn slowly across the 16inch edge of the machete that sparkles, glinting in the moonlight that casts its reflection from the stainless steel cutting board,,,, Bwaaahahahahahahahaha.....

I hate to be the bearer of bad news guys, really, I do. BUT, your little mouse friend came across poison somewhere. This is exactly how they behave when they have gotten into poison. They become lethargic and unable to move.
That being said, you may want to find the source of the poison in order to protect your kitty.

Makes sense Jen, considering it was in the garage. We have tons of chemicals in there. Not to worry, kitty doesn't leave our house...it won't be a problem. :)

No problem - I understand completely. Like you, I understand it's just the kitty-cat's nature to CHASE that which runs. I do wish all of my little critters could live in harmony together, but nature is nature. My hubby just isn't quite as understanding when he finds loving presents of little dead things outside the door. (Back door - our kitty... Other back door - our neighbor's kitty.) He really should appreciate being shown such LOVE!
