I don't do my own taxes, but I basically do everything except the final documents which I hand off to my accountant.
What's your procedure like for taxes?
I usually wait for the end of the year statements from my credit cards to arrive to mark out stuff I can write off before I get started.

We have an accountant - but my husband gathers and goes through everything ahead of time. He's just gotten all of our stuff together because he also likes to be sure he has EVERYTHING and check through it all before going to our guy.
My mom, on the other hand, does her own - and already has her refund!!!

Hub does ours and actually LIKES the challenge of it. It makes me mental.
Mom (74 years old) does her own too-- and refuses to use a calculator! crazy lady. That gene skipped a generation I think.
My forte is spending the refund. haha.

My dh has the accountant for his business do ours. It would drive us both nuts trying to do it on our own. If it was straightforward I think we could do it but our taxes are very complicated and I would be afraid that we would miss something.

I voted that an accountant does mine, but he's also my dad, so maybe I should have marked both? Anyway, being a CPA's daughter is cool. He knows all sorts of tricks to do things the best way for tax purposes.
We just signed and returned our e-file letter to them, so we'll be getting our refund in a couple of weeks. We usually aim for as close to zero as possible, but this year, we're getting a pretty big refund. Having a baby will do that for ya. Plus, we got to itemize our medical expenses this year - having a baby and surgery took care of that.
I have no idea what we'll do when my dad isn't around to do our taxes anymore. We'll have to find someone because neither of us is interested in handling it, but it will be hard not having it be a family member. The whole trust thing, you know.

My father is an accountant, and did my taxes until I got married. DH prefers to do our taxes now, although he does call my father with any questions. I think DH doesn't want my family knowing how much we (or rather he now) makes.

My hubby does ours and uses Turbo Tax online. He took accounting in college but never pursued that career. It works pretty good for us because we have a basic married filing jointly situation.

My taxes are so screwed up. I am suppose to be getting back a nice amount this year......suppose to be being the key phrase. I had them done online at some tax firm thingy 3 weeks ago. They said I would be getting my check in 7-10 days. No check yet :vent:
My ex has claimed my son 2-3 times before......without my written consent and I claimed him too. I hope he didn't try that this year and screw mine up.

Hub did ours up tonight... very excited about the little sum coming our way.:)
That's my boy! Although I was very insulted when I joked that I would repay his mathematical maneovering with sexual favours, and he said, "nah, I'd rather have 10%." Dinkus. Ha! See if he gets either now! ;)

Oh boy, now you guys will find out how anal I am!! Not only do I do our taxes, I pull an employer's Circular E from the IRS site every year to manually calculate how much withholding we need deducted from our checks to "break even" at tax time. I set up an Excel spreadsheet that will automatically calculate what net pay is based on filing status, pre-tax deductions, and number of claimed exemptions. Each year I update it with the info from the Circular E I mentioned above. We usually end up paying in or getting back $50-$100. 2004 is a bit different because we have the sales tax deduction here in Texas. Fortunately, I saved most of our receipts and I found about $1,400 in sales tax deductions!:thumb2:

LOL! I make my dad do that since he's got the training. I admire your patience to do it yourself. I'm very anal, too, but I can't stand dealing with tax junk.

I do mine myself - I sat down the day it came in, wrote it out, and mailed it. I have had my return spent since the first week of Feb lol. But I do the EZ form so it's easy. I went to an accountant twice because I had school and rent deductions and I got back significantly less than when I do the EZ form ($500-$600 less).
