At LEAST once a year, you need to take your kitty into the vet for an annual check up and exam. This standard checkup should include checking the following:
- teeth for tartar/gum swelling
- ears for ear mites and other fungus problems
- body for ringworm (with black light)
- standard bloodwork
- fecal exam for worms
- booster shots for rabies, FeLV, panleukopenia, rhino&co, etc.
- eyes for normal pupil response and normal retinal appearance
- weight, heart rate, temperature
Most practices will give you an invoice with a listing (usually on the bottom) of dates when your furbaby should return for shots, etc., but be sure to ask about the other items as well. Sometimes our doctors are so busy (we know they're all overworked - at least mine is) that they can easily forget these smaller things because they're visiting with us parents and making sure the BIG vaccinations are taken care of.
Be a good parent - cover all the bases! :cat:
