i just wanted to run this by the board before doing it on my own.
i have a large collection of overgrown cactuses (cacti??) that i am planning on transplanting-- is there any special treatment they need? (i mean, is there like a special time of year or anything dodgy like that?)

Hopefully some "experts" can answer you better, but I don't know of anything. I've always transplanted mine in the spring or beginning of summer - using soil that's suitable for succulants - and I've never had a problem.
Good luck! :crossed:

I love Cacti, Maraelise. What are their situations in being overgrown? Sounds like you have them in a pot. Do you? Since they are overgrown you must be doing something quite right, they sound happy where they are. Would you describe their state in being overgrown? I might be able to give you some insight as to what to do. Do you have any proper names for the varieties that you have? If not how about a verbal picture.
Most cacti like the same sort of love, yet certain varieties like a different kind of care for blooming. I'll check ya out soon,,, Good Luck, and I'll wait to hear from you... I have this thread on instant e-mail notification,,,

This should be interesting for me, cause I know nothing about Cacti...I am however, willing to learn.

i love cacti as well, but i know nothing about them...
happily, i've "inheirited" the cacti... so to speak. unfortunately, this also means i have no idea what they're called.
hmmm...
one is like the "classic cactus"-- one single phallic upshoot, pale yellowish green, but instead of being needly in appearance, the needles are horribly fine and from a slight distance almosts looks like it's furry and "pet-able" and they are a bitch to get out if you get one in your skin.
actually think this one is sick or has a some sort of local virus b/c there's a spot near the top where the normal exterior is gone and replaced by a sort of inpocketing of fine whitish powder-like substance which might be a fungi or some sort of bacteria. in the center are random black bits. it's pretty unchanged for the past month that i've had it.
the other ones (or the predominant over-grown ones) are ball-like dark green with mean looking long black needles and a gorgeous shiny green plastic like exterior. i actually have multiple plants of this variety. one off shoot is so massive (it's more like a bowling pin in shape) it literally tips the entire plant over b/c the container isn't big enough (the dirt simply doesn't retain enough counter-weight).
i think that's pretty much the whole deal.
