Just thought I'd mention one great way that I keep in touch with my grandchildren. For the young ones I tape record myself reading them a story. Then I add a personal message. For the older ones I tape record a personal letter asking them about what they are doing in their lives and getting them up to date on what we (grandma and grandpa) are doing. I mail them these tapes via priority mail so they feel the message is important and just for them.
They love these tapes and play them over and over, hearing our voices and enjoying the inflection in our voices as we get serious, happy, sad, excited. For the young ones, they somtimes listen to these tapes as their bedtime stories. It really is a great way to keep in touch with them. Has anyone else done this? Don't you think it is a great idea?

HI EmilyOC
I take it your grandkids live far away. And I do think that is a great idea.
When I was young my dad used to tape record himself on a cassett recorder for me. He drove a truck and was gone from home a lot. He would say goodnite, things like that I cherrished those tapes, to this day I still have some.

For me, I could not even think about my grandchildren living so far away from me that I could not see them daily if I choose. If my daughter was to move out of state, I would pack up and move right along with her.

But that is because I am used to seeing my grandchildren often, heck they used to live with me, (thank God that's over LOL). Love them very much, but I love the fact that they get to go home too

I found a book on Book-of-the-Month called "Grandmother Remebers". It is like a baby book in that it has certain headings about their life for them to fill in the details. Its a way for them to pass on their life & knowledge to later generations. I liked it so much I got it for both my Grandmothers, hubby's Grandma as well as both of our mothers for Christmas. I wrote a message inside all of them personally addressing them to each of them & letting them know that these are intended for my kids so they will know about them evne tho they don't get to see them (hubby's grandma lives in Kentucky & 1 of mine lives in Texas). I haven't received any of them back yet but wouldn't be surprised if I don't get any before the end of the year.
