Well, tonight we came upstairs to a little surprise....our cat had an accident on the bed - diarrhea. :gag: I am worried about her!! I am going to call the vet in the morning and see if I can take her in for a checkup. She is getting old and I just hope everything is ok. Anyone have experience with this? Did your cat all of a sudden start having "accidents" outside their box? What was the cause of it?

C - this could mean anything, but definitely I would call or go to the vet. Generally, diarrhea can be a sign of worms or bacteria in the bowels, or your kitty could be sick. It can also mean allergey to new food so it's not always a bad sign. I'd look at your kitties eyes - see if they're bright and shiney like they should be. If not, you'll be able to tell that he/she doesn't feel well and definitely needs to go visit the vet... even if it's just to put your mind at ease. Kitty may have also gotten hold of something that shouldn't have been eaten... but did. That can upset tummies too! Or rich food - or anything for that matter. Just remember they're just like people - they can get little bugs too. Just give your baby water if he/she wants it until morning and then go from there.
Let me know how it goes... I'm sure everything will be fine. :crossed:
Oh, poor Janny-babe! :( I don't have any experience or anything, but I hope your sweet kitty is okay. I know she's been having some issues here & there over the past few months.

thanks guys! yeah, she has kinda always had a problem with loose stool, but she's never gone on our bed before....or anywhere really far from her litter box where it didn't look like it accidentally came out on her way into her box. she seems fine otherwise so hopefully she just ate something funny, but I dont know. I have a feeling she is just getting old and maybe senile. it's hard to face the reality, but I'm going to take her in to see the vet and see what he says. I will let you know - thanks!

one of my sisters has a cat that started to do that - he would poop outside of his box, usually in her bedroom. I can't remember exactly what was causing it, but she changed cat food (on the advise of her vet) and it seemed to help. Her kitty is 10+ yrs old.
I wonder if it's baby related... Peeper went potty in Nicole's room a few times before she was born...
I'm sure Janny is ok! A trip to the vet will certainly give you some reasurance.

Thankfully, my little girl seems totally fine. She has always had a sensitive stomach and she must have eaten something funny off the ground. We've had a lot of work done outside lately so one of us may have brought something in on the bottom of our shoes. Anyway - we didn't do any extensive testing. I am going to feed her only diluted chicken broth and water for 24 hours...then gradually change her food to Science Diet (senior hairball). Hopefully that will do the trick since her belly doesn't seem to tolerate her current food so well. If that doesn't work, we will look into some blood tests, but the vet really thinks she's healthy and doing well! I am so glad. :) I was really worried about her for a while.

I'm very glad to hear she's okay C! I was certainly feeling like it was probably just something that upset her tummy, but of course wanted confirmation. And you were SO SMART to take her to the vet. One to be sure, and for your own peace of mind.
Let us know, if you don't mind, after a few days how she's doing. I feed my kitty an Iams hairball formula dry food just because I figure they ALL get hairballs and I'd rather not have her hacking them up. It's all she's really ever had and she seems to like it fine. I didn't realize they had a senior formula - but I'm sure that's something I'll need to look into eventually too.
Again - so happy your baby is okay. Give her hugs and lots of petting from us - okay?
I'm so happy to hear it! :thumb2:

Thanks! I will definitely keep you posted on how she's doing. It's just so sad b/c all day she keeps following me around and running to her dish with her tail up. She doesn't understand why mommy won't feed her. She also has not slept for a second today, which is so unusual. She is just afraid of missing out on some food, I guess. She will be one happy kitty tomorrow morning. lol

You know, that's a REALLY good sign that she's feeling better that she's WANTING food though. Usually if they feel really bad, they don't want anything - so at least she's gotten her appetite back... very very good!

Just wanted to update on my baby!
She had a rough couple of days, but now she is completely switched over to her new food (Hill's Science Diet Senior 7+ Hairball) and she LOVES it!! I'm not kidding, I have never seen her so excited to eat and she is making good, solid poops now. LOL!

We are now the very proud parents of a new calico kitten, Gloria. She is a GREAT beautiful purr-monster of a girl. One problem: she peed on her bed. Once (last week) I thought it was just a kitten accident... but she did it again today. What gives? She's been here almost 2 weeks and she definitely knows how to use her litter box, and did so very cleverly from almost the moment she came to live with us. We change the box every day... she did have a vet visit today which I am thinking might have thrown her off a bit. She has apologized vehemently (she channels through her dad, apparently)... is it just that after accident number one she came to associated her chenile blanky with peeing? I've cleaned the mess and she won't be getting her blankie back, I don't think. Any other solutions? Her bed is an old crappy ikea chair... not worth a thing. But we also have some new furniture... the thought of her peeing on that makes me queasy. Suggestions as to why she did this/how we can prevent it from happening again?

call the vet if it persists - usually if they know better and are peeing somewhere obvious or right in front of you, they are tryign to tell you it hurts. They can easily get urinary tract infections, so you might want to make sure.
Did you wash the blankey? Make sure that smell is totally gone.
Also, get some of that kitty no no spray that you can buy in the pet sections at walmart. Phoebe hates the smell of it so bad. If there is something you don't want them to pee on, that will help deter them.
However , sometimes they do the unexplained. Phoebe actually peed on this one brand new giant floor rug that we bought to put in "her" room (hard wood floors). Apparently she did NOT approve of it being in there; she started peeing on it regularly. She never pees out of ther box . Eventually we had to just get rid of it b/c she had ruined it, and there was nothing that was keeping her from peeing on it! So, I just threw it out, and she hasn't offered to pee on any rugs since.
Don't you wish they could talk?!?
Good luck!

OMG, I soo wish she could talk!
We're going to buy some sort of enzyme cat pee cleaner... just to be sure the smell is totally gone. I thought it was really weird she peed in her bed... but then I read on line that sometimes kitties pee their beds... they just can't make it to their box in time. Aweee. Poor kitten! This made me less cranky, but more concerned for the well-being of out furniture and a little concerned as the little munchkin sleeps with us at night. I washed the blankey last time, in the washer, on hot, with oodles of soap, but it could well be that she can smell the remnants. I think blankey is going out of commission.
I think she is healthy... she has had some poo issues (TMI, but bloody poos) we freaked and dragged her to the vet... we are assured that it might be nothing, but could be parasites... we finished her deworming treatments yesterday so we will see if that does the trick. She is extremely healthy-acting otherwise... eats like a champ and plays and cuddles, so it has us at a bit of a loss. She gets a booster next week so we'll discuss the peeing and the pooing then, if they persist. Ack. Hurl. My gawd, I never in a million years thought I would be discussing kitty poo/pee issues.

Ha. I know what you mean!
But, we have to figure these things out somehow! I'm just glad you care enough about your pet to discuss and investigate her issues. She needs you! :) Good for you!
