What does your kitchen look like? Do you have a theme?
What color cabinetry? Appliances? Sink? Flooring? Wall color? etc....

we tried to go with a somewhat modern theme for our kitchen, but I don't know - I think it still needs some work.

We have walnut cabinets, black countertops and black appliances. We have really lame flooring - it's vinyl (sp??) that is supposed to look like tile. I love our backsplash though, it's a really cool taupe-y tile.
I like my kitchen b/c it's so big, but I wish it opened up to our family room (it's one big room off on it's own).

I am so bored with my kitchen! A few years ago (before I was even pregnant with Aidan), I decided I wanted to sponge paint the entire kitchen (walls only... lol) in a bold color. I was so hooked on Trading Spaces at that time, so I was brave enough to go "boldly" into that project and now have a burnt orange (go UT!) and white kitchen. I'm ready for a change... I wouldn't mind doing another faux finish on the walls; however, I'm just not sure the boys will allow me to spend that much time on a project. I have a feeling I'm just going to have to put up with the look of my walls for another year or so.

No theme at all. I have a dark green (almost looks black) metal ivy wall clock above my stove. All my appliances are white. My countertops are a marbled beige/white color. My flooring in the kitchen/dining area is 16" ceramic tile flooring in a marbled beige/white color with light-colored grout. I really wish that appliances manufacturers would come out with a brushed nickel finish for appliances, because I'd buy that in a heartbeat! I like the stainless steel look, but I don't like the fingerprints that easily appear on it. I would also love to have either granite or Corian countertops instead of this ugly, plastic formica countertop that all these builders install. Our cabinets are a honey oak color.

I have a fruit theme going.... Hobby Lobby had a sale! :) It's painted a soft taupe color. The kitchen sits in the middle of the house, so it opens to the family room and breakfast area... so of course that's where everyone gathers when we have get togethers.

Our appliances are white and we have a light peachy tile and backsplash.

I love my kitchen!! When we bought the house 2 years ago we gutted the kitchen and remodeled it. It has a country feel to it, light green walls, white cabinets, white trim, dark green swirled counter and the same pattern of dark green swirled vinyl floor. Our applicenses are pure white also. Everything in the kitchen is either a shade of green or pure white.

Our current kitchen: beige melamine cupboards with oak trim, beige non-descript countertops, beige non-descript linoleum floor, beige walls, and beige appliances. Yep. It's about as attractive as it sounds.:p However......

In our new house, we'll have a beautiful kitchen. Just picked all the stuff the other night at the sales office. Our cupboards are a modern maple style, in a nutmeg color. We picked granite-look countertops that are black, beige, and some of the cupboard color. The flooring is linoleum; faux tile in a putty-taupy color. The backsplash is a taupy-beige tile, and our appliances are black. It opens up to the livingroom/diningroom areas which will be done in browns, taupes and oranges. Can't wait until December!

My kitchen...

Hmmmm hasn't had anything new in 15 years!!! (Okay fridge is new and pale yellow tile backsplash)
Cupboards beige with wood trim (where U open the doors)
White walls, hunter green trim..
countertop is fake wood...LOL
(cant wait for DH to put granitetops in)
2 peice sink, awaiting our new sink.
Floor..VINYL...eek
I cant explain in, its just plain UGLY!

My dream kitchen..I want real wood cupboards (oak)
which they will rock with the granite-tops I have picked.
3 peice sink (yanno with the mini-middle sink?)
Of course tile floors, I know they get cold, but I really REALLY want tile laid down :)
No theme, but as a colour, ultra white celing, with taupe walls..
If I have to knock out the tile backsplash, I will have granite trim up :)

We live in an old (200 year old) house, converted into apts so our kitchen is not really our own so we can't go crazy with decor or renos (which it needs).

Our kitchen is nice, but small. Big enough for a table and all that, but not huge. It's got great light, wonderful for growing herbs, and it has a balcony off it, which is very convenient (I prefer this to a balcony off a living room). It's all white... white cupboards, white floor, white appliances... I've just recently decorated in reds/rusts/yellows to match these photos, my hanidwork which I have farmed (I took them at the Roosevelt Summerhome historic site at Campobello Island). I must say, I am liking it alot!

Our plumbing is original to the house when it was built I think (ha!), as it has sucky water pressure and is probably full of lead (twitch twitch).

Here the pics which have been my decorating muse:

My kitchen has no theme. I think my life has not theme. Anyway, it is large and has oak cupboards (lots of them). I painted the walls green but that was just because I gave in and gave up. I painted our family room a gold suede but it looks green now that it's done. I painted a spare bedroom tan and it looks green too. Soooo when it came time to paint the kitchen I said what they heck...might as well start out painting it green. The appliances are white. The floors are cracked clay/pinkish color tile. That's a long story but it involves poor underlayment and a husband who does not go after local contractors (hates confrontations). I think we might go for a hardwood floor---or maybe keep the cracked tile. We had crown molding put up on the sofit and I like that a lot. My husband convinced me to get a side by side refrigerator/freezer and I would not do that again. We had a pantry put in the cellar way. The carpenter took off the dry wall and installed shelves between the 2x4s (finished it off). I am not sure exactly how he did it but I love it. It used space that was not being used for anything else and you can get 5 cans on a shelf between the 2x4s. The counter tops are white tile and I don't like them b/c I they are hard to keep clean---seems like germs are hiding out in those grout lines. I am thinking of going granite or corian. Any prefrances out there between granite and corian?

I collect pigs and so my kitchen is done up in pig things. :) Pig placemats, pig rug by the sink, pink curtains, pig cookie jar...and I have gone as far as to put stuffed pigs on top of the cabinets...and little pig knobs on the cabinets. :)

granite or corian???

I can somewhat answer that...
Granite is REAL stone..right from the mountain...
After its been cut to size and polished...
thats your stone :)
Its very pricey but its worth it

Corian
Well everyone is loving it..
its taking over the market..
Think marble...
that went out when granite came in..
Corian is manmade..
it can be dyed to whatever colour U want..
My twin sister has it in her bathroom **eek, that project IS a mess..I posted about that)
Corian is also way cheaper...most ppl get it because
it looks like granite, but the cost is way lower...

To me..I will always stick with my granite..
perhaps because my DH is in the **Stone** biz so we get it cheaper than most ppl..
but I love real stone :)
Like I told my twin sister..
U eirther buy a real louis vuitton bag, or a knock off..
she went with the knock off...LOL

Since u fear germs..never put in a tile to tile countertop...
the grout holds germs, and u can NEVER truly kill them...
I always wanted a tiled countertop...
DH told me why we would never install one, after knowing that..
I had to agree..
HE IS RIGHT..like usual!!!
Once a month I still bleach my tiles in shower (bathroom) and my backsplash in kitchen..just knowing what grout holds..
EEK

Hope I helped you a little bit...

That does help. I was going to go granite and then someone told me it had to be sealed every six months or so. Is that the case? I didin't know if I wanted to fool around with that. I need a surface that is good for cooking and baking. I "use" my kitchen countertops. I make a lot of bread and candy as well as the day to day stuff. Because of that I need a surface that I can knead on and all. (Tile does not work for that at all!)

Omy...Anniet...

No Granite doesn't need sealed every 6 months...
I wonder who told you that...
Trust me your best bet is Granite...
Its a natural stone, whoever U buy it from does all the work..
after it has been polished, they install it..
The only diss of Granite...
it wears down knifes fast..
(thats why we use a cutting board)
LOL

The other man-made stuff looks and feels like granite...
Its just as good, they have high gloss in it to make it as glossy as granite...
The only differnce I know of between the 2..
U get what U see with granite..
Corian you can have made to any colour you want since they make it
as they go...
its put into a mold, where Granite has to be cut to size, sanded, than polished.
Its very timely...
and like I said before, a HUGE price difference..

I wish you the best..
its tough making all these choice's...
but in the long run..
as long as your happy...
thats what counts :)

Thanks for all the info. I just read it to my husband who has no clue about anything:) That should help us come to a decision.

Now...when was your belly picture taken? Is that fairly recent? How are you holding up now that your due date is nearly here?

well let me know what your choice is, of course when its installed..
take a pic and brag...
That was in my 20th something week...
I'm now 34 weeks (as the ticker says)
I have a journal here in the pregnacy part on H/T
Holding up is a daily challenge...
THE JOYS OF BEING PG!!!
(Thanks for asking)

I really cant wait to see your kitchen complete,
unlike you, I dont cook or bake, but I do get granite at a low low cost, so
we are just waiting for my hubby's work to get ours cut..
hes doing all the polishing and install :)
Of course he (my DH) is busy right now with installs for his friends, its that time of year,PPL want their house's done, and because they are friends he does the labour for free, and polishing...its an italian thing, one day we might need something,
so it works out perfect :)

Take care

My kitchen is bright yellow with a sunflower border and every square inch is covered in sunflowes....just kidding but practically....but I'm sick of it so want to re-do my "theme"
I had it like this for a couple of years. Someday if we gut the kitchen and start over I want all black appliances....dark cherry cupboards and a granite countertop. But probably won't have it....The appliances defiantly but the rest well.....*sigh* I can dream.
Anyone with a cool fun theme? I've already done apples and roosters...I'm a theme person. I thought about Mexican...like chile peppers and bright Mexican colors.....
