I am looking into getting a maid at least for the last 4 months of my pregnancy. The lady came on Saturday gave me an estimate for a first time full-cleaning. Vacuuming all areas, mopping, cleaning kitchen, baseboards, window ceils, fans, light fixtures, etc. basically everything but the windows. She quoted me $150.00 for the first time and then maintence would be like $70.00 does this sounds right or outrageous? My house is a 3 bedroom with 1 full bath and 1 1/2 bath and a dining room and living area.???
Thanks in Advance!!

I think it's too high. Let me get you my old maid's name and number. It was $55 for our 2 story house!

I think it seems kind of high too. Ours is $60 for 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bath, 2 living areas & kitchen. If Rhonda's doesn't work out for you let me know and I'll get you the # of the service I use.

Just FYI - I think that's high too! The initial cleaning (depending on what all she does and the homes present condition) isn't too bad, but the maintenance fee sounds high - unless of course that's per month and she's coming twice a month on a specific schedule. Also, be sure to find out EXACTLY what's included... like if she does laundry, etc. - which most services will provide.
Definitely keep checking around and references are your best bet!
(I wish I had a cleaning person!)

My Step-Mom owns her own cleaning company and I worked as a cleaning lady with her for 8 months, hardest damn work I have EVER done! and I waited tables for 10 years!
For my location the cost seems a tad high, where do you live? do you have children at home? Do you want her to wash and dry your sheets and towels? does she have to clean the walls often and did you get references.. some people are just worth it.
We never did all of someones laundry, we did wash bedsheets and towels and that it, I can't imagine someone asking me to do anymore than that, the thought makes me green in the face!! :barf: If I am going to do laundry it would be that plus a little more. you spend WAY to many hours doing laundry to expect that someone would give away all those hours for that, but it NEVER hurts to shop around.

My cleaning lady charges me $60 a week and she cleans the whole house except only one bedroom and two bathrooms. That is vacuuming and dusting two living rooms, the dining room, the t.v. room, and one bedroom and vacuuming and mopping in 2 bathrooms, laundry room, back patio, craft room and kitchen. She cleans the tubs, sinks and toilet too. She charges $10/hour and she works her butt off. She will also fold any clothes I have in the dryer but I don't ask her to do laundry.

I have been surfing the web and the newspaper for about a month for an individual to come and help us keep our house clean. we are newly expecting and I promised my better half I would try to find someone to supplement what cleaning we do daily. We both work long hours and I am not interested in a "big name service", I am looking for an individual, personable person who is willing to come by 1x a week to do some basics.
I am new to this forum and it seems to me some members are in the austin \ cedar park area (we are about 1 mile from lakeline mall) so any and all help\recommendations will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Mike
ps if this is not the appropriate method to go about asking this information, I apologize in advance

I just found a new cleaning woman. She is priced higher than the one I had before, but I feel much more comfortable with her, she does my laundry, will help me organize anything and everything I want, and works quickly. My previous one definitely payed a bit more attention to detailed cleaning, but she worked soooo slow, needed help carrying things, and it was hard to communicate with her. She also did not do laundry and for me that is probably the #1 thing I need help with. I had a pile a mile high and this woman had it all done and folded, plus re-organized my pantry and cleaned my entire house minus 1 bedroom (2 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, kitchen, living room, dining room...) in 4.5 hours. She charges $70 per day. My previous one was $10/hour and usually worked about 5-5.5 hours.
