Does anyone use a stackable washer and dryer? Currently we have side by side washer/dryer by Whirlpool, however we are very seriously considering getting a new set. We are thinking of getting stackables so we can use the extra space in our laundry room to put the cat's litter box. Right now it is upstairs in our second bathroom which will eventually be the baby's bathroom. We really don't have much of a choice on where else to put it......so we thought downstairs in the laundry room, which is right before the garage and off the family room....would be perfect. We'd just put in a kitty door so we can keep the door closed, but we DO need to get a stackable washer/dryer in order to have room. So.......my question is does anyone have these? Do you like them? What brand do you have? Are they big enough? I guess I'm just looking for ANY input. Thanks in advance!

I had one a LONG time ago (about 8 years ago) in an apartment. Keep in mind that it was a while ago, and it wasn't the most state of the art unit but...
it took FOREVER to dry clothes. And, I could truly only put about 5 big (normal bath sized) towels in a load. It was fine b/c I was single, but it wouldn't have been optimal for doing a lot of wash. Again, this wasn't a top of the line model and I'd bet things are MUCH improved. Just wanted to throw my experience in there.

We have a full-sized front-load washer & dryer (Kenmore, I think?) that is able to be stacked. In fact, that's currently how we have them in our laundry room. I'm sure that other brands and models can be stacked, too.

Great to know, Jana. We will probably go look this weekend. I definitely think this is the best solution to our "litter problem". ;)

Deana - lol. I know watcha mean...we also had a stackable set in college (even more than 8 years ago) and they were horrible. I know they've greatly improved since then though....

Hiyas Csara...

Stackable washer adn dryer's are good, but not the best..
I too have the side by side by...love all the bells and whistle's it makes :)
I had a stackable washer and dryer about 6 years ago..
Appt size they call them here..
Dryer time takes longer, as for washing, they are smaller loads, than the ones we use now...

If U need the room, Like I did, They are good, plus its summertime, so U can hang out ur clothes to dry (which I love my clean sheets from outside in the summer)

Its best U use the vent for outside still, even thou most PPL use a stocking...
(I thought that was cute when I heard the sales guy tell me that)
I dunno if I would ever go back to the Stackable washer and dryer way..
Only because of the baby, and well..
Over sized washer and dryer, to the smaller size..huge difference...
plus drying time is longer...and cause's more humidity in room :(

Just trying to help ya out,..
sorry it sounds more neg. than pos.

We are considering getting a stackable also. As long as you get the extra large capacity I don't think there will be a problem. I've used the full sized and they are essentially the same as a regular washer and dryer. Not the best but comparable.

Well, that didn't take much time....we splurged and got the top of the line LG. I am in love with it (even though I haven't even used it yet). It has so many different controls and cycles - it's like a computer! The washer and dryer can be either side-by-side or stackable so that is perfect. I will let you know how they work tomorrow as I plan on doing a few loads of laundry...and yeah, I'm so excited about it. :D

Ooooh! The LG's are so nice! I don't blame you for being excited. As for what the girls were saying about smaller loads, that is true of some stackables, but not all of them. These days they're making stackables that have full size barrels in them, in just a more compact housing. And when we were looking at the washer/dryer for our place, the guy told us that most of the front loading dryers we were looking at, dried clothes in half the time their older counterparts did. I think you'll be very happy with your purchase. Let us know how you like them.

These are extra large capacity - actually bigger than the standards we had before. I also love the front-loading washer. We just put a load of towels in (they have their own cycle switch, lol)....and it's very quiet. LOVE IT!!! :D

We considered the LG's when we bought our Whirlpool Duet set last year, but we were concerned about the quality. We saw several units at Best Buy, Lowe's, and Sear's that had been returned. Hopefully, what we saw was just a fluke! :o

We stacked our Duet washer & dryer, and I'm really happy with the results! Definitely uses less floor space, that's for sure!
