View Full Version : Bathroom Upgrade?

If you could update one thing in your bathroom, what would it be? I think for me it would be our shower. I would love to re-tile our entire shower, put in a new glass door and a great showerhead. I hate the way ours looks now. It's one of those plastic-type things that the builder must have just "stuck in" and has ugly white tile with a thin green border towards the top. The bottom always looks dirty no matter how much scrubbing we do or bleach we use. :gag:

Ha, well we're actually redoing our tiny new master bath at the moment! We've stripped out everything except the tub (including all the drywall, b/c we couldn't get the darn wallpaper off). We're going to re-tile the shower walls up to the ceiling, put tile on the floor (there was carpet (!) there before), replace the ugly sink & cabinet with a pedestal sink to open the room up, raise the shower head up a foot or so, add a new toilet and new towel/tp bars, an oval mirror instead of the huge rectangular one, and a pocket door to give even more space. I think that's it!

Wow! That sounds exciting! Are you doing it all yourselves??
And I really hope I am not offending anyone with the following comment, but who the heck has carpet in a bathroom?? I've never heard of that before. That's just bizarre.

We're doing some of it ourselves, and some of it we're not. :) Oh, I know, tell me about the dumb carpet idea. I guess it was the thing to do in 1981 when the place was built? Horrible, horrible idea. Mmmm, rotten 24yo carpet and moldy subflooring. YEAH! Sign me up!

The house we lived in until I was in jr. high had carpet in the bathroom and the kitchen. It sucked! Why would you want carpet in either one?

No offence Jana, but ewwww to the carpeted bathroom. I don't blame you for changing it. I would be thinking about all the mold and would have to get rid of it.

You think carpet in the bathroom is weird, how about in the kitchen? When I was working back in highschool, I was supervising the cashiers, and it was our week to clean the lunchroom. So this girl Tonya volunteered to go up. Well when she gets up there, she calls me and tells me she's all done everything and just has to mop the floor. She then asks me how to do it. This girl was a little clueless to begin with, I mean, how hard is it to mop a floor, even with no experience? But she told me she'd never done it before because they had carpet in their kitchen at home???? Can you imagine?! The spills, the crumbs, the food you'd be dropping on it! Nuh-uh.

As for upgrades in the bathroom, everything in ours will be new, but one upgrade we did put in was a light in the shower stall. We have a separate tub and shower. Being we'll use it most, we had the light put in there. Would have liked one in both, but the install of one was two hundred and some dollars extra. If we want to later, we can install another in the tub, by running it off of the one in the shower anyhow.

We painted and re-did the flooring in our bathroom when we moved in to our house. I am pretty satisfied with it right now but if there had to be some changes done we would take down the huge mirror and replace with smaller oval ones, re-do the vanity type lighting at the top with nice mounted lighting and I would make my closet about 10 times the size. One weird thing about our bathroom is that it has a ceiling fan. We never quite figured it out. Also we have really high celings in there and it is impossible to get to.

I don't understand why people put ceiling fans in their dining rooms either. Wouldn't it cool off the food. :dunno:

We have carpet in our bathroom and I love it! Perfect to dry Brandon in his towel on and then let him roll around for a bit! Carl hates it though and says "I don't understand carpet in a bathroom." But I like carpet over tile floors or wood floors for the comfort reasons. I'm always barefoot and just love it!

I would rip out the shower and put in a whirl pool! with a shower head over that!!! And a two person sink! Hey I know that is two but if I am going to dream I am going to do it right! LOL!
