Alright I need some help.

I am renting my best friends house have been for almost 2 years. Our lease that we signed expired a while back so we are just going month to month she hasn't brought up signing another one because I am sure she knows we are reliable.

Okay heres the deal the house is to small and we need a bigger one soon. How much notice should I give without leaving her in a bind. I don't want to say anything till I actually find one I like. She always says just give me enough notice. How long is enough. A month. Or is that too short notice.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I think 3 months is what most leases require but since she is your friend you would probably be able to get away with less.

I was going to say a month. That's what our lease states. 30-days written notice.

30 days written notice is pretty standard. Obviously, if you know before then, I'd give her as much notice as you can. Another thing to think about is that a lot of places will call your current and/or past landlords to find out if you're a good tenant. You could probably let her know that you're looking for another place because you really need the extra space, so she can expect some calls, and tell her that you'll give her the "official" legal notice as soon as everything's set up.
