He's three-four years old. His name is Jack. But ... do beagles bark a lot?

Jack is adorable. But be prepared! My parents' one and only ever dog was a beagle, who was super cute. But veeery high energy! I don't know about barking, but they chew chew chew. Ours chewed tables, shoes, electrical cords.. you name he chomped on it. Funny thing is, Corey's fam also only ever had one dog-- a beagle who chewed everything in sight. I am not saying that all beagles are like this, but...

Check this out.. there are also lots of good things about Beagles. They are great with kids!

We are in the dog market too, thinking of a Nova Scotia Duck Toller. Hub wants to name it Cranston. Toller Cranston. Get it??? :)

Your question was the one thing I was going to say about beagles... they do bark quite a bit.

He is sooo cute! I LOVE beagles! They do tend to bark a lot but it depends on how he has been brought up. They are very smart dogs and have hunting instincts. Ask whoever has him now what kind of mannerisms he has. He may be mellowed out by now since he's 4. If he isn't "fixed" by getting him fixed that will mellow him out that much more.

My neighbors have a beagle and I'm just hoping that she's getting to the end of that lifespan! I know it sounds mean, but that darn dog barks ALL THE TIME whenever they have her outside... And it always seems to happen at some of the most inopportune times! Like when the boys are napping together! Argh!

Oh... and a beagle's bark is not your standard, "Woof! Woof!" It's the most annoying "Woooo! Wooooo!" Hard to describe, but it's not something your neighbors will likely adore. LOL

ya know what?! That's what I wanted to hear. I know there's a couple of breeds out there that bark more than others. I remember you posting about this before, haven't you?

We have a big front yard and the back is rather small. And we're surrounded by houses, so we definitely don't need a barky doggy all day or all night. We do intend to keep the dog outside half the time. Our backyard is totally shaded and cool. But too small for a big dog.

Ask whoever has him now what kind of mannerisms he has.

Yes, I've sent them an email. Waiting for a response. This was an ad on a local site for FREE AKC BEAGLE.

The beagles I have seen seem to whine more then bark.

He is a cutie I hope you get him! Good Luck!

My in-laws had a beagle that was the love of the family. I never really heard her bark. The only thing I know about her is that she liked to run. Since they are hunting dogs, they have a tendancy to take off if opportunity knocks. Thye had a long rope that they kept her on when she was outside, so that helped. She was a super sweet doggie. They all bawled when she was gone. Now our little Abbey reminds dh of their beagle. aww.

I hope it works out for you. All of their personalities are different. What did the current owner say in reply to your email???

Well, the verdict is we're not getting him. :( Carl just wants to wait until Brandon is old enough to pick out his own puppy-dog. Every boy needs a puppy, right?

The current owner did say that he is very friendly, lovable and does not bark much at all. He absolutely loves cats and is very good with children. The only negative things she said were that he does love to "get out" and will try to so she was hoping we have a fenced yard. We do! And they live in the country and have a chicken coop. Well, he would get in there and chase the chickens all around!! (never killing one though, just playing). So that's really why they're looking for a home for him. He was injured in a car accident so he limps a bit but he doesn't let it stop him from playing, fetching, etc.

Does anyone else want him? I'll get him for you! We're coming to Austin this weekend girls.

Aww man, that's too bad. I hope they find a home. He sounds so sweet!! Of course I want him, I want them all! But, I'm in Ohio, and our home is already full with 2 humans, 1 jack russell, and a calico kitty. :( Maybe some day when we have a fenced in yard we'll have two doggies. :( I love them!!

I hope Jack finds a home....!!! :) Let us know if you find out what they do with him. :)
