I use detergent with alternative bleach-----not chlorine bleach. Many detergents have bleach in them and that fades your clothes. Also, I wash nearly all my clothes in cold water and cold rinse. I seldom used hot or warm---like maybe 4 times a year. I noticed the difference in my colored clothes when i switched detergents. Shriveled? I don't know what that is all about? Do you take the clothes out of the dryer as soon as they are done? Do you use a permanent press setting-----one that cools down after the clothes are dried?

anything that I'm very particular about I hand wash in the bathtub and lay flat to dry... I hate having my clothes look crappy after one wash!!
I also use all cold water. The only time I use warm is when I'm washing whites. My clothes look better if I remove them promptly too, and I always use fabric softener like downy. DH's work shirts always turn out ok!
good luck!
