Any recommendations for a vacuum cleaner? Ours conked out -- it hasn't been sucking so well lately, and yesterday, it just totally stopped while I was vacuuming. So I'm looking for something around $200. Any suggestions?
Well, they're definitely more than $200, but I can't rave enough about my Dyson. I do know that you can get them for slightly less, refurbished, at Amazon.

ditto to what Jana said. Our dyson was about $500, but you can get a less expensive model without the "animal" attachment.

We just have a plain old upright Hoover. I wouldn't rave about it, but it works. I have no idea how much it was, but I'm sure it was quite a bit less than $200. I guess I'm cheap. LOL

what is it that is so great about the Dyson? I guess I'd be willing to spend more money if I knew more about it. Do they come with a warrenty?

I have a Hoover. It's nothing to brag about but it is bagless and does work great. My aunt has a Rainbow and it is killer. It would suck the feathers off a woodpecker a mile down the road. They are pretty expensive tho.....I think hers was around $800 a few years ago.

The dyson is the best. Bar none. The Ball Dyson will probably be better, but I do not know.
Costco has a great deal on the souped up model Dyson (theone we have) the Animal but with more attachments and its cheaper than we paid.
Its got a clearish body with purple trim.
The vacuum is really really great no bullshit.
Our friends have a housekeeper and a dog and she always vacuums thinking the carpet was clean. We let them borrow our Dyson and everyone was amazed how much more hair and dirt came up. Dog hair just filled that tank up nicely.

They just do an amazing job cleaning. They're relatively light, very easy to maneuver, easy to clean/empty. They work well on carpet and non-carpeted surfaces. I like that they're bagless...I can see when it's full, and I can see exactly how much nastiness it sucks up (even when you think the floor is already clean). It's both disgusting and fascinating!
You're welcome to borrow mine if you want to try it out before you make a decision!
According to their website, they come with a 2yr warranty.

thanks for all the feedback. I couldn't justify spending close to $500 on a vacuum cleaner. But, the more I read about the dyson and hear from people that have one, I really want one. I never thought I'd get excited about a vacuum...!

Lol, I know! Mine was a gift, and the giver thought it was crazy how excited I got about it! Just wait until you get your hands on one! My hubby made fun of me until he tried it...now he raves about it to everyone, too!
