I smoke and so does Tommy. I LOATHE the smell of smoke in the house and constantly sprinkle carpet freshener and now baking soda on the carpets/furniture. I use Febreeze daily and now I have a candle obssession. It's really insane. It's almost like a fetish. I HAVE to buy at least 2 new candles every time I go to the store. I leave the windows cracked and light tons of candles on the window sill. It does help w/ smoke odors and makes the house smell good. Anyone know of anything else I can do?

Oh that was GOOD Heather! :biglaugh:
Several of my friends that smoke only have one room in their house that they smoke in - or they go outside to smoke. The ones who have the "smoking okay" room have a room air cleaner (like an Oreck) in there to contain the smoke. It seems to work pretty well because I'm allergic to smoke and I never smell it in their homes except if I got back toward that one room!
It's something to consider - but if you decide to do that, you're still going to have to "deoderize" the house. That will mean cleaning the walls and everything with water, vinegar, amonnia and baking soda; steam cleaning all carpet and furniture; and having clothes either cleaned or laundering everything!
My sister quit smoking and it took her QUITE a while to get the smell out of her clothes and her house, but she finally did it. Oh, and you also will have to vacuum and clean your air ducts if you have central heat/air to get the smoke deposit out of them as well. And use HEPA type filters in your system... that helps too!
Boy! Aren't I just a bundle of information?! :o

 wow, I knew that smoke stunk everything up but never thought about it in detail......you made me realize how crappy that smoking indoors is.
I will start a No Smoking policy indoors......and I do plan on washing walls down very soon, gonna paint the hall, bedrooms, kitchen, and my bathroom.
Even with smoking in here I have found a few tricks that has greatly helped. I still do the candle thing (I could try lighting one of those up after sex Heather  ), I vacuum 2-3 times a week and use baking soda on the carpets. I polish the furniture 2 times a week and clean the bathrooms every day. I also windex the windows at least twice a month if I don't get to them every week.
I have a new obsession........dryer sheets  They are great! I wipe the dog down daily with one, wedge one in each air vent, put a few under couch cushions, hide a couple in the curtains and flower arrangements, etc....
One thing I never thought would work as well as it does......it works so well I have to constantly move it or unplug it because it gives me a headache at times. Glad plugins with the scented oil/night light thingys. I keep mine turned down on the lowest and you can smell it throughout the house. I got mine at the dollar general the plug in part was only $1 and the refills are $2.50.
If anyone has any more tips, lemme know!

You know you can also take the dryer sheets and hang them over the hook on your hangers with your clothes (every 3-5) in your closets and that makes your clothes smell really good too!
:hatsoff:

my dad and stepmom smoke inside. They limit it to the kitchen and family room areas (and my dad smokes in his 'office').
They have those electric odor eliminators with special filters for smoke. I guess it helps some, but I can still smell it. I have a super sensitive nose though (and I used to smoke, so I think I can sniff it out more!!). They also run their ceiling fans alllll the time. When I smoked, I was the fabreeze and candle queen. But truthfully, I don't think there is anything you can do to eliminate it or even mask it that well.
