Phantom electric - Budgeting & Finances

Anyone ever heard of Phantom electric use? I have a friend she was averaging about $100 a month on electric, which is about what I pay. Well she unpluggs stuff after she is done using it. EX the microwave using more energy just being plugged in then if you would use it 7mins a day. she also unpluggs her TV. after doing this her bill went down to $55@month!!!!!!! Can you believe that? I am doing it! I can not wait to see my bill! LOL!

I didn't realize it had a name, but yes, I've heard of it. Wow - I can't believe how much your friend's bill went down. It definitely sounds worth a shot, even though it's a PITA to do. lol

WTHeck? You mean electricity is used just from things being plugged in even if they're not used?

Yep, it is so crazy to think of! My husband now calls me the plug sheriff! LOL! I am always asking "did you unplug_____?"

I'm sitting here imagining how many things I would have to CRAWL BEHIND to unplug everything in my house!!! Not to mention to clocks that would have to be reset every time!!!

I unplug things like the toaster and the microwave after each use just because we live in a double wide house and my dad always said these kinds of houses would go up in a fire quickly. I wonder now of all the things just sitting there eating electricity that I can unplug....Yonksgirl I want to be a deputy unplug sheriff

THF~ The only place that I really worry about a clock is the one on my wall and it does not use electric. I also leave my alarm plug in to, and t is killing me! LOL!!! I think I am developing OCD!
