Water plants/ponds

Does anyone else have any water plants or a pond?

We are going to redisgn a few areas of ours this year. Here's how it looked about a year after we put it in, a few of the plants have changed but the layout remained the same:

First we are removing the plastic waterfall. Actually I am going to probably paint it with some rock-style textured paint (I bought it a couple years ago intending on using it in the pond area) then fill it with real rocks (my om is going to have the neighbor famer put them in her yard when he tills the field). My thought is by doing this I will get a little more realistic looking waterfall & won't have to worry about plants or birds trying to land & dying (usually get 1-4 a year before I get the plants in there to show them its not as shallow as it looks).

Second I am going to look into getting either a new filter spong for our pump or a whole knew pump. Usually I rinse the filter spong out before I turn the waterfall on in the spring & again when we are shutting it down for the winter. Last year when I rinsed it for the spring it didn't seem to help & I did it atleast 1 other time during the summer without the water getting as clear as I like.

I went out there the other night after dinner & started on the spring pruning. I got everything trimmed down except for the ivy (which is a job in itself), the rose of sharon, some leaves around the garden & I am going to do a serious deep clean (chemical free) of the pond itself.

Ok enough about mine, lets here about your's! Big or small lets see them all.

Very nice.

We have a pond that has water lillies, and other water plants. It also has carps, feeder comets, guppies.....

Sorry, I don't have a picture of it.

My water lilies actually died off last year, that is one of the things I want to redo.

Glad I could help Heather. I used to have a ton of pictures on the sony site but I don't know if I can still access them (I'll try to find it again later).

Went up to my mom's today & got my first load of rocks. These are what I am going to use to redo the waterfall & pond area. Once I place all these I'll make another run up there for more (if I need them).

My mom never realized that we would have to PAY (and good money) for these types of rocks.

I got the pond mostly cleaned out. I think next weekend I'll go looking for a new pump. Don't know how much work I'll get done this week since its suppose to rain off & on.

Ok Heather, I finally tracked down the other site where all my garden pictures are (www.imagestation.com). Here is my pond area in full bloom (granted a few flowers change every year (when 1 or 2 don't come back I replace them with something else):

Thanks Heather. I am really happy with how it has turned out in the past. Once I get everything in place again this year Ill take more pics. With a little trial & error I have found relatively low maintanence plants that come back each year. Honestly the major maintanence is the pruning each week but that isn't bad because its all mints & makes my refuse bags smell nice.

I got our new pump & fountain head sut up the other day, put the water plants in yesterday & moved the fish back in today. I spray painted the waterfall with textured paint yesterday & planned to seal it today but it was left outside last night so I had to do some touch-up work instead. I may still eb able to get at least 1 coat of sealer on tonight.

The wather looks like it will cooperate this week so I may be able to get out there after dinner to finish sealing the waterfall, then I can start placing it & the rioks in & around it.

Once I get the waterfall set I'll tack some pictures.
