Laying pavers?

Anyone here lay their own pavers? Was it a lot of work? Any tips/suggestions or is it worth it to just have someone professional do it?

In order: Yes. Yes. Possibly, if you want it done quickly.

We did ours (before kids) after work & on weekends so it took us a couple weeks to complete. Me & Rob worked on it with periodic help from a few people.

Katie,
How did you guys do it? Any pics? I want to do out in front of our house. We have a small deck leading to the front door.

I have pics somewhere it's just a matter of finding them (I almost started looking for them last nigth but got side tracked).

We started out by digging down so that the pavers would end up level with the driveway they were butting up against. Once we dug down & leveled everything we put down a layer of plastic (I suggest using a different weed barrier as the plastic held too much water that took an extra step later to correct). Then it was time to place the sand (you can use small gravel) & tamp it down. Then the joy of laying & leveling the pavers.

Honestly the majority of our time was spent digging to make the base level.
