Southern Bottle tree - Don Drane

They originated in Africa (and before that I think) but are very popular in the south (Louisianna, Mississippi, etc.). The belief is that if you hang or have these beautiful bottles, evil spirits will stay away from your house.

I can't find the link, but many Asian and Indian cultures have something similar that they call spririt poles or trees. They're pretty cool (something to do with those Skye Vodka bottles!)

They're SO COOL! But of course if you're not where people have them... you might get some STRANGE looks! I've seen some outside pergolas where the people have put some blue glass bottle up and down the main side beams... same type thing! It's really beautiful in the sun and with your garden, especially if you have climbing plants!
