Tomato Soup Tragedy

LOL!! Ya know, I have to tell you that I am great at following a recipe. They always come out delicious. But if you give me something simple like tomato soup and grilled cheese it tends to end up being dumped. How does that work exactly? We had this for dinner this evening, and I burnt the living bageebers out of it! LOL! Soup and sandwiches were pretty toasty! My honey on the other hand makes an awesome grilled cheese. I think I will leave this one to him from now on. LOL!

Anyone else have any cooking disasters to share?

oh I hate it when I burn the grilled cheese!

My #1 disaster --

shortly after dh and I were married, I made some baked fish with what was supposed to be a basil cream sauce. It looked and smelled awful, like poached fish in a watery green sauce. Very gross. But we sat down and tried it anyway. One bite into, dh said, "do you want to order a pizza?"

So now we use 'green fish night' as sort of the bar... "anything's better than green fish night... does it even compare to green fish night??"

Can you believe that we had tomato soup and grilled cheeses for dinner too?

I put together a lasagne once.... and forgot a little detail: the sauce.

And I added plant food to pasta sauce once-- my mother kept her plant food in a vinegar bottle... and yet I was mocked as the stupid one??? FYI, it was the best pasta sauce ever! (yes, we ate it)

Oh and once I tried to thicken a chowder with what I thought was cornstarch-- it was cream of tartar. Soooo grosss.... the whole thing tasted like baking soda. That was one of those "ack, let's order a pizza" moments.

I make "creations"They are usually a very delicious dish that I try to make for my family. My latest was a italian sausage sandwich on crusty french roll. I sauteed the sausage in olive oil. In another pan I sauteed onions, mushrooms tomatoes. Then I combined the sausages with this mixture and put that on a roll. Oh and I added garlic powder to the onion mix. It was pretty good. But some creations are not so good.

Isn't plant food a lot dangerous for consumption?
I am glad you are ok.

Yes I am sure it is not especially healthy ... but at about a tsp in a vat of about 20 cups of sauce, not enough to do any damage (I hope). Come to think of it we did all feel ourselves inexplicably drawn to the sunlight for a few days afterward, tho. hahaha. (Note: we didn't realize til *after* dinner about my goof-- when mom asked "who had the plant food out"... you can see where that one went).

Has anyone seen that commercial for Glad food storage containers where the mom made a cake for her child's birthday? They are all sitting around the table eating their cake but realize it doesn't taste right. Here mom had mixed up the sugar and salt containers and used way too much salt. Anyway, they all simultaneously spit it out. A few seconds later shows the family dog spitting his out too.

It's cute and certainly made us laugh. I guess you just have to have seen it to know exactly what I am talking about. Hopefully you are all good mind readers! Have great day!

I think that commercial is actually for a label-maker. If I'm thinking of the right one, where it shows her at the end labeling the salt and sugar.

It might be, but any way it's still cute!
