Fashion: Purses

How much have you or would you pay (ever) for a designer purse? By "designer" I'm meaning brands - like Coach, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chloe, Hermes - something that is a "brand"...

Would you believe I bought a Vintage Louis at the Sal. Army for $5? I also found a cute little Prada bag at the thrift store for $1.99. Those fools didn't know what they had and I didn't tell them

I have paid up to $200 for a purse, mostly Coach stuff. But I keep my bags for a long time and beat the heck out of them. I feel the same about wallets, but I have only had two wallets in 17 years, both of them Coach. I just buy what I like and take care of it. My current 'purse' is a pretty diaper bag that I received as a gift, but I know that they retail for about $150. But I've been using it for 1 1/2 years as my sole, everyday 'bag' and probably will continue to use it for another year or so. My point is that I don't collect a whole bunch of expensive stuff, I use it until it is fried and then I move on. Now, for 'fun' purses (going out purses, or specifically to match an outfit), I either buy really inexpensive stuff or cheap knock-offs. My current favorite 'going out' purse (like we ever go out anymore) is a Channel knock-off that I bought in the carribean for about $15.

I've never bought a designer one... For my mom we've bought expensive purses, like over 200€, but they weren't any special brand.

Anyway I've bought imitations that are just as real as the real thing...

I wouldn't pay a lot just because of a brand name, I don't see a reason for it.

I would buy the knock off Coach bags. I live in an area where people don't know the difference or really even care.

You know - I've seen several of these that were VERY nice... and then I've seen some I didn't like (but I didn't like the real ones either!)

I just buy what I like and can afford.

Ditto! I would never buy a bag just because of the brand. I especially try to stay away from the logo bags. I hate them. I don't care if it's Gucci or Dior, if the label is plastered all over it, it looks pretty tacky.

I'm so funny - I don't mind some of the Coach - bags - but it depends on the bag (how the logo or "c" is on it.)

I DON'T like Louis Vuitton - only because I feel like a billboard (but if I could afford the luggage I would buy it because I think they make REALLY good luggage!)

I also don't like Fendi... think they look cheap!

Chloe - too heavy!

Hermes - LOVE LOVE LOVE! But I'm not paying that much for ANYTHING that isn't a car or a house! (Sorry - even though Birkin is my absolute FAV design - $10,000 is totally rediculous to me for a purse!!!)

Gucci - Sorry I don't like these either... I think they're tacky!

I think it's funny how people get "hooked" on certain things just because of logos - and other people HATE them! Mostly, I'm not a logo person if you can SEE it... I go for the quality and usefulness and I like to believe I'd be the same way even if I had TONS of money to burn!
