Floor coverings

I'm trying to decide if I want carpet in the living room or if I want a hard wood floor laminant. Heres the deal...Dh has allergies. So the hard wood would be better with the pet hair. But carpet is warmer feeling because we live in an area where its more cold than warm....what do you think? I will be tackling this project in the summer time so plenty of time to figure it out

Personally I would pick anything other than carpet, especially if your husband has allergies. You can always get some area rugs and some really cozy slippers.

We have wood laminate flooring, and we LOVE it. It's so easy to keep clean, and it looks great. People comment on it all the time and really seem to like it. My mom liked it so much that she decided to put it in her house based on mine AND the fact that my dad has terrible allergies and asthma. It has already helped him wonders. They said they are going to take up the only carpet in the house that is left (the bedrooms) and replace it w/ laminate b/c they think it will help dad even more. It's great!! I only have carpeting upstairs in the bedrooms. Pretty much the entire downstairs is laminate flooring, and it looks so nice.

we have tile in almost all of our downstairs area EXCEPT for our family room. BAD decision. We haven't lived in the house for a year yet and the carpet is trashed. Plus, we live in the allergy capital of the universe and i think it really holds the pollens. I vaccum almost every other day and it still doesn't help.

Get anything other than carpet - you won't regret it. Find a fantastic big area rug and call it a day. I have been begging dh to rip the carpet up and either tile or do laminate.

HARDWOOD! I have allergies too - and with the doggies - the only area I have carpeted in my family room which was a HUGE mistake! As soon as we can afford to, I'll have it ripped up and replaced with either tile or real hardwood.

The only reason I would go with real hardwood instead of laminate is because the rest of my house is real oak and I can HEAR the difference! It doesn't have as deep as sound as the real hardwood and when you already have the real - you can actually HEAR the laminate... which drives me crazy.

(My kitchen was done in laminate a year ago and I'm ripping it out and replacing it with tile now!)

thanks girls!! I think I'm leaning away from the carpet thing. They just don't hold up.

wood! i've only had my laminate floors for a week and half and already had a ton of spills i've cleaned up so easily! Definatly good if you have kids. but I seem to notice pet hair more too so i'm always cleaning it. but if hubby is allergic it's proly a good thing to see it and do something about it.
