Mixing Appliance Brands?

Is it strange to mix appliance brands in a kitchen? I feel like its really common to have the same brand for all the appliances in the kitchen, but I don't think it really matters. I remember growing up not having the same brand appliances.

I guess the best company for the best appliance at the price you're comfortable with would be right the choice.

C and I are in the midst of a kitchen redesign and am working out the particulars, but will document the whole thing on HomeTalkers, but I wanted to get your take on this.

I guess for me I tend to lean towards a few that have good ratings and price is always a factor. I like GE and whirlpool. The stove(that needs replacing) is an Amana( I think). New fridgy is whirlpool. I don't think it matters as long as they color coordinate. I have all black appliances. Well with the exception of that stove which is white but when replaced this summer will be black as well.

when we had our current house built, we could only choose from one vendor, but we were able to choose multiple brands. Our cooktop, fridge and dishwasher are all different brands (ovens are the same as cooktop) but coordinated colors (stainless - actually our fridge is some sort of brushed finished - doesn't show fingerprints and allows magnets).
I don't think it matters, other than the fact that the warrenties may expire at different times.

Our stove and dishwasher are Genair and the fridge is a frigidaire. You would never know they were different tho-- all the same look to them (all black, which I didn't think I would like, but I really do). I'd say find one of each appliance that you like and don't worry if they match-- although if you are buying en mass -- several pieces from the same company-- maybe you can get a deal? Incidently, the Genair stove is AMAZING. We probably will never afford one when we buy/build ourselves (we are renters) but holy crap, so worth the investment if you can swing it. BBQ IN YOUR KITCHEN! And how the thing sucks up odors I do not know... pretty nice.

It does really matter to me, as long as I know I will get my money back in use on it. I also like to get good warranties, because normally when they have a longer warranty they will last longer. I normally don't even look at the brand, but at the functions and warranty
