Organizing my loft and spare closet!
Organizing my closets - this is something I really have to do!!
Since we cleared out the baby's room and closet, everything was moved into our "loft" area, which also needs to be completely reorganized.
I'm going to show you some before pics (yes, this is what it looks like now!!) and will try to keep up step by step on how to organize this mess.

Ok, first things first. I am going to start out by emptying the ENTIRE closet. Right now it is full of junk and there is no rhyme or reason to what is in there. We have the two extra leafs for our kitchen and dining room tables, ski clothes, luggage, photo albums, stationery, art supplies, sewing kit and just whatever junk fits in. In the loft area we have exercise equiptment, an old dresser from the old guest room (now nursery), hubby's guitars and amps. I don't know where things are going to go, but we'll find a place.
After the closet is emptied, I am either going to put in more shelves on the right side or get a bunch of containers. Haven't decided yet. I think I'm also going to use the dresser in the loft for extra storage instead of getting rid of it. I might just change the handles. Cant stand those big black circle knobs.

Here is what I think you should do. Make a deal with J if does the closet and loft you will do the nursery! I think it is only fair since you have to give birth!

Wow! I love the new floor! It's beautiful.
I'm sorry, dear, but you ain't got nuttin' on those "Clean Sweep" people. I'm sure you're very happy about that. Good luck getting things organized. We've been working on our basement since we plan to finish it this summer.

LOVE the floors!!! Good luck w/ organizing. It seems like if I throw bags *and I do mean BAGS* of junk out I have more afterward than before. Makes no sense. If I were you I would gather up everything from every room in the house that you no longer need/use. Have a garage sale and take the profit from that and buy baby stuff. What doesn't sell can go to charity.

Thanks for the compliments on the floor. I love it too! We put it in the office and the nursery, and already have it in our bedroom. The only carpeting we have left in the house is in the loft and on the staircase, but we are probably going to get the laminate flooring to replace that carpet next year. It was just too much to do at once.
Anyway - I haven't done anything else yet. But first I am going to:
1. empty out the loft closet
2. give away/throw out anything I don't need or use anymore
( I wish we could have a garage sale, but my homeowner's association doesn't allow them in our development)
The hard part will be finding places for everything!! The nursery gets done last.

Wow C, those pictures look mighty familiar, they look like home LOL...
When you really get into organizing let me know how it goes, cause thats something I really need to get into too.
BTW, I LOVE the floor, that is just what I wanted in my house....

thanks Suze!
Today I finally got some things done in this area. There is also a small linen closet btwn the loft and our office. Well, I emptied it out completely and got rid of some old blankets we haven't used in years. Then I put anything that wasn't a spare blanket, towel, sheet or pillow somewhere else and refilled the closet. It looks neat and organized finally. I also worked a bit on the loft closet by taking everything out of the left side. It's funny that I have to work on the closet in 3 parts. I was able to get some things into containers and slid them into the bottom. My next objective is just to get rid of a lot of junk. The floor space already looks better. There isn't as much stuff on the ground, but I don't have time to take a picture right now. Maybe tomorrow after I get more done.

Sounds like things are falling into place. You are so motivated.......maybe you can motivate me
Too bad about not being able to have a yard sale. You could check into giving them to homeless shelters and/or churches that hand out things to the needy. That's what I plan on doing w/ the things I don't sell.
Good luck and happy organizing

Does your community maybe have a garage sale? Or is that just a small, hick-town thing? LOL We just got notice that ours is having one in the city parking lot for $10 per space.

Wow, this is old! So almost a year later we are *almost* done with this. Obviously the nursery is done and the loft was fully cleared out except for the elliptical machine (which never gets used, btw) lol
We took everything out of the closet, including the shelves and put new ones in. It is much better. The loft area is now used as a play space for Jax. We have the big colorful alphabet foam board down with a bunch of his toys. I have to go get some baby gates and enclose it since he'll be crawling soon. Hopefully we'll be ripping up the carpet and replacing it with something in the not too distant future. I will take and post the "after" pics when I get a chance!

Ya know -- now that I think about it -- I don't think I ever saw pics of Jax's completed nursery!
