Do you have a carpet cleaner?

If so, how many times a year do you actually use it?

Yes and we hate it! It sucks and doesn't clean up a thing. We use it once every other month.

We have a handheld one that's great for small messes. Plus we have a Hoover, that I do all the carpets with a couple times a year.

I have one and I use it about every two weeks the regular traffic areas are easier to keep looking nice if cleaned regularly

I have a hand held Dirt Devil Spot Scrubber and it is the worst $50 I have ever spent. However, I just got one of those Little Green machines from Bissel and love it. I probably use it once a week to spot clean. We rent a Rug Doctor two or three times a year when we want to do the whole carpet.

I just bought one and love it. I don't use it in the winter so much but I will in the spring. What do you use for a cleaner? What cleaning product do you use in yours?

we have a steam cleaner and we love it - worth it's weight in gold. With kids and pets it is almost a necessity. We try to steam our family room once a month.
We were spending a lot of $$$ on the hoover brand cleaning solution but I found that the Resolve for steam cleaners is just as good, if not better! And I can buy it at the grocery store.

I have one, but it's broken. I'm wanting to get it repaired, but I question if it's as good as having it "professionally" done.

Do you guys thing the dry-chemical cleaning is better... or the steam cleaning?

I only have one room that's carpeted - but it's the FAMILY ROOM and it's AWFUL!!!! It's the one room we're through ALL THE TIME - including the dogs and I want to rip that carpet up SO BAD I cannot stand it!

I am so glad - we got rid of all of our carpet last year!!! I hate carpet and it was horrible with our allergies. Anyway.....we do have a couple of big area rugs that I just vacuum but they could probably use a good cleaning. Probably not worth it to buy a steam cleaner though....and I just throw the smaller rugs into the washer/dryer.

Ditto to what C said. I don't miss carpet one bit. We do have it in the bedrooms upstairs though, and it's not the greatest carpet in quality(was here when we moved in). I imagine we'll replace it someday, but for now it is holding up fine. We've borrowed my MIL's steam cleaner a few times for it, but I don't think I need to buy one for the small amount of carpet we actually have (and in such low traffic areas, spare bedroom, office, etc.)

I know this is an old thread - but I had a question and wondered if you guys knew:

Do the carpet steamer/cleaners you rent have an attachment so you can do the upholstery?

I'm wrestling with the thought of renting a machine and doing it all myself - or calling someone like Stanley Steemer - who will do it FOR me for about $200 plus tax...

I had Stanley Steemer do my carpet in the living room and it was awesome!!! The carpet had been attacked by a dog and a toddler...lol. It was stained and was supposed to be light blue. After they were done with it was like new. It was barely damp at all. Highly recommend their services!!

Thank you Heather! They're running ads in our area - and I think it might be worth saving my back to hire them!

We ARE going to rip that carpet up... but we can't do it right now with all the other construction projects going on! And we're looking at a leather sofa and loveseat (which I wanted to begin with - thank you) because it's easier with dogs, cats, children to keep that clean and/or TO clean!

I appreciate having someone else's knowledge!
